Studio Sunday

Video: Studio Vlog-Shopping, Declutter & Cleaning

September 23, 2023      Leave a Comment

Hi everyone! Today I am sharing a little something different-a studio vlog! I haven’t had much time at the studio this week so today I decided to have a bit of an artist day while I visited the used book store and a few craft stores before heading off to the spend the afternoon cleaning my very messy studio.

It was raining today but as I was heading to the car I saw that someone had left a lovely note in our Little Free Library thanking us for setting it up and keeping it so nice. It was a really nice surprise as I wasn’t sure how many people were using the library but it really made my day! They didn’t sing the note but I am so grateful to them.

My first stop was the used book store. I am very lucky to have an amazing one nearby and so I went in and left with a stack of books! Some are for my little library, some I plan to read and then add to the library and some are for my own collection. I will share a full shopping haul next week with my book club update.

After that I went to fabric store but they were closed because their power was out. I had wanted to buy some fabric to use as backing for a crazy quilt I’m making but it will have to wait for another time.

A stop at the library for, yes another book and then I found my way to the studio. The rain and chill had me looking forward to a cup of coffee and then I finally got down to the business of cleaning.

I also did a little shopping and I think for my birthday I am going to purchase some storage units for the studio. One will store items and also work as a great place to pack orders when I start offering physical products. The rest is to hide away all my supplies so the space feels much cozier and neater.

I also managed to get some work done on the dollhouse and film for tomorrow. All in all it was a really wonderful day!

I hope you enjoy watching the video. Please let me know if you like this sort of thing as I might add it to the regular rotation of videos.

Until next time…

Studio Sunday: Holding Creative Space

April 4, 2021      Leave a Comment

Today I have found myself a bit lacking in energy. I have all these creative ideas swirling in my mind and when I sit down to bring them to fruition-there seems to be a disconnect.

I recorded a 12 minute audio for my other site only to realize it didn’t actually record. I am finding myself bouncing back and forth a bit from one idea to the next and feeling a bit all over the place. Times like this it’s important I think to let go of expectations and to just continue to hold creative space.

What does holding creative space look like to me? For me it means I am still designating time each day to my creativity. It could be just sitting with my new favorite journal and putting some watercolor on paper, it could be doodling, it could be working in my Year of Me Journal. It could be sitting in my creative corner and hoping some creative inspiration finds it’s way to me.

Making space for creativity is sometimes the only thing we can do when we feel a bit off and perhaps a little unmotivated. I find sometimes sitting in my creative corner with a cup of tea and watching some of my favorite creators often inspires me to do some doodling or painting. Even if I’m just starting a background or playing around in my journal.

It seems that when I have some big projects brewing the halt of action always seems to precipitate the actual doing. It’s almost like pulling back one of those little toy cars, you pull back, pull back then hold a moment and….release! They are off like a rocket. Allowing myself the space to let the ideas fall out onto paper (even when they are a fantastical mess) is part of the process. The space that happens prior to the launching.

After I write this post I am going to take just a few moments at least to sit with my journal and paints and work on this project that has been happily bouncing around in my head this week. I would love nothing more than to get this project all done this week, prepped next week and launched the week after yet I remind myself that it is the process of creating that makes me happiest. That it is not the creation that I seek but the journey towards the creation that offers the brightest joy.

I hope you are having a wonderful weekend and that you are looking forward to some wonderful creative time next week. Please consider joining my creative community and share what you are working on this week. I would love to hear about it!

-Until Next Time…
